National Day of Service
As part of the Fall Mass we collect donations for the National Day of Service, which in the past has been a book drive. During the Pandemic our National Day of Service was a food drive. Our members donated food and money for a local Food Bank in our area. The Past Presidents organized and delivered the food that was donated. Thanks to the money that was raised we have continued to donate money to the food bank each month.
Christ Child Society of Pasadena’s first-ever food drive was an overwhelming success thanks to our generous members. In lieu of a book drive and an interactive literacy day with a local parish school, the Past Presidents of the Chapter organized a food drive to help stock the food pantry in the San Juan Diego Community Services Center located in El Monte and run by Catholic Charities. The Center serves areas where several of the parish schools with which we work are located. Member and Provisional volunteers manned collection sites located at the home of Terry Clougherty and Becky Sarni. Both members and outside donors dropped off enough non-perishable items to fill six SUVs. We also collected about $3,685.00 in cash donations which will be used to support the food pantry for six months after the food drive! The food pantry coordinator was overwhelmed by our generosity and could not be more thankful.
