Welcome

Welcome

The Christ Child Society of Pasadena is celebrating 90 years as a chapter of the National Christ Child Society.  Started in 1933 at Mayfield Senior School with 15 members, we have grown to over 400 members today.  The history of the Christ Child Society is rooted in the works of our foundress Mary Virginia Merrick (1866-1955).  Although Mary Virginia Merrick was paralyzed as a teenager, she was driven to help poor children, and the Christ Child Society she founded in 1887 in Washington, D.C., is the precursor to Catholic Charities.  Mary Virginia Merrick saw the Christ Child in every child she served, and our members continue her mission by serving children in need.  Her motto “Nothing is ever too much to do for a child” inspires the work of our chapter.

Together we provide financial grants to eighteen Parish schools in the San Gabriel Valley; at Christmas and Easter we provide gift cards for needy children; we assemble over 500 infant layette bags full of baby necessities to distribute to local hospitals, charities and pregnancy help centers; we tutor and read to elementary school children; we teach etiquette to children in 5th and 6th grades; and we plan book and food drives to fill many needs of the less fortunate.  With these service projects, we aspire to another motto of the Christ Child Society: “To see a need is to fill it.”

Our members enjoy making new friends while serving together, and we are blessed to have members who have participated for 25 years or more, as well as generations of mothers and daughters or daughters-in-law, and sisters who participate together.  We volunteer together, plan fundraising events together, pray together, and end up having lots of fun.   It is a wonderful blessing to be a member of the Christ Child Society.  All are welcome, and we would love to welcome you into the Christ Child Society of Pasadena family!
