Layette Program

In 1884, Mary Virginia Merrick assembled the first layette for an impoverished infant in her community, marking the beginning of many gifts given to needy children through the Christ Child Society. The Pasadena Layette committee continues assembling and providing layettes to needy families with infants in the San Gabriel Valley. The layettes provide a new mother with some of the basic needs for their infants. The Layette committee meets five times per year at the St. Andrew’s Pastoral Center where our members get together and assemble the layettes. Our group is so thankful to have many devoted knitters in our Christ Child Society who make blankets, booties and caps that are included in each of our layettes. The Layettes are distributed to many area Parishes, Hospitals, Pregnancy Help Centers, Children’s Services and Catholic Charity organizations.
